Position: Manager of Recreation and Cultural Services

This is a full-time position with the Town of Princeton (based on 35 hours/week), to oversee and manage the operations of the Recreation and Cultural Services Department.
This position is responsible for leading, planning, directing and evaluating the Recreation and Cultural Department, Recreation and Cultural Facilities, Recreation Staff, Trail Development and other Recreational Initiatives.
The position must be able to work independently with a consultative teamwork approach, have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, an ability to effectively respond to emergency situations, and work long hours under stressful conditions if needed.
The Director will have a post-secondary education in disciplines that include recreation administration and facilities, administrative management, leadership, human resource management or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.
•To act as a liaison between community groups on matters relating to sport, recreation and culture.
•Ensure efficient and effective delivery of sports, recreation and cultural arts services to the community.
•Manage the safe and efficient operation of the arena, pool, tennis courts, ball diamonds and Riverside Community Centre in accordance with established policies, procedures and best practices.
•Work with the Director of Infrastructure and Parks in the planning and development of parks, trails and other green space initiatives.
•Be involved in discussions with service clubs and other organizations on matters relating to community events, programs, beautification projects, community promotion, parks and trails development and other matters of general public interest.
•Supervise, train and assign duties to recreation department personnel. Leading by example.
•Make recommendations for hiring, promotion, discipline and dismissal of recreation department staff.
•Participate in management meetings as required.
•Perform a wide variety of administrative and operational tasks.
•Remain informed of the developments in the field of leisure services by attending professional development and training activities as budget allows.
•Conduct regular reviews of facilities, programs and services to ensure that they are operating at an economical and reasonable cost.
•Responsible for the development, design and planning of programs and events and to provide guidance and expertise to groups providing recreation services.
•Develop new department policies and procedures with special emphasis on excellence in public service and to promote cooperation between public and private sectors, non profit groups, participants and staff.
•Develop the annual department budget including long range business plans, goals and objectives.
•Prepares staff reports to the CAO and Council as needed.
•Interpret and develop recreation initiatives identified in the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan.
•Seek out and apply for grant funding where ever possible.
•Investigates and resolves general and confidential departmental complaints.
•Sets high standards in delivering excellent customer service and quality patron experiences.
Required Knowledge, Training, Skills and Experience
•Degree or Diploma from a recognized post secondary institution in a related Recreation field of study.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience as a recreation administrative professional.
•Excellent communication and computer skills.
•Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with service providers, contractors, volunteer groups, staff and elected officials.
•Ability to work independently, prioritize the workload and accomplish tasks within a reasonable time period.
•Ability to work in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality.
•Ability to perform with confidence and be courteous, tactful and diplomatic at all times.
